Four Wauchope High School students represented Lower North Coast at the North Coast selection trials held at Woolgoolga on the 20th of March. Lucy, Emily and Marney were in the girls team, with Matthew playing in the boys team.
The boys’ team kicked off their day with a tough match against Mid North Coast, holding the lead for most of the game. However, a few turnovers and foul issues in the final moments allowed MNC to clinch a one-point victory. Standout performances came from Nate, Cameron, and Jer-Kyle.
Following a short break, the team faced Northern Rivers. Despite adjustments to the lineup, moments of brilliance—such as excellent ball movement, off-the-ball positioning, and solid defence, especially in the third quarter—weren't enough to overcome Northern Rivers, who had built a strong lead by the final whistle. Sam, Cameron, and Austin were key players in this match.
In the final game, the team squared off against the toughest opponent of the day—Far North Coast. The boys looked more energized and engaged, but FNC also found their rhythm and took the win.
Despite the losses, all LNC players played with determination, showed resilience, and made coaching a rewarding experience.
Congratulations to Cameron Carson from Port Macquarie Campus, who made the North Coast side, along with Nate Stricker and Bana Lavine, who earned spots on the reserve list.
Thank you to all the players for their hard work and commitment throughout the day.
