14s boys cricket

14s boys cricket

On Friday 18th of October, our 14s Boys cricket team hosted Macksville High at Fairmont Gardens in a 40 over per team, one day match. The weather looked ominous early in the morning, but by the scheduled 10am start time the sun was shining. Captain Harry lost the toss and Macksville elected to bat.

Wauchope started well in the first 15 overs, with Kale picking up one of the openers lbw and then securing a run out. After drinks, the boys lost their way a little in the field as the day heated up. The remaining opening batsman took full advantage, firstly bringing up 50 runs but then hitting out until he got out for 76.

Wauchope did eventually bowl Macksville out before the end of their 40 overs, with Daniel, Jaxzyn, and Hayden each taking wickets. Be’jai took two great catches, even if the method he used was a little unorthodox. Macksville reached a substantial total of 172.

The Wauchope boys again started well in their innings, with Harry playing some great shots while Jaxzyn defending stoutly. Kale came in when Jaxzyn fell and he also played some great shots, scoring 4 boundaries. Hayden bravely came back out to bat after retiring hurt, being struck earlier under the armpit by a bouncer. Sadly, he wasn’t able to resist for too much longer, along with the rest of our very inexperienced batting lineup. The speed and accuracy of the bowling was a bit too much for us, so a few stumps were rattled and ducks recorded. We managed to score 83 runs, which I considered a terrific effort for such a “green” team.

The boys played the game in a great spirit and were terrific ambassadors for our school. It was a pleasure to take them away.
